Going Large: Sculptural Slab Techniques with Max Lehman

AUG 6th - 10th

Participants in this workshop will learn how to use slabs, drape molds and wrapped forms to achieve volume without having to create solid shapes to hollow out. Students should have some experience with clay, as focus will be on the medium's stages of dryness, and, in particular, how to work with clay in its leather-hard state. Students are encouraged to bring forms to drape or wrap: Lehman will demonstrate how to manipulate large slabs, and how to construct with them. Participants will have time to complete one large piece, in either figurative or abstract style, in the course of the 5-day workshop. Space is limited to 10 students.
