Das Gupta, 'Lifeline 1' W2'xL3.5'xH8inches 2013

Sharbani Das Gupta is a ceramic and visual artist,
working both in India and the United States. Das Gupta
roots her work in the theme of separation and
connection, expressing her interest in political and sociocultural
issues. She completed her graduate degree in
Visual Communications from the National Institute of
Design, India, and worked as an Artist in Residence in
various countries, most recently in Skopolos, Greece,
and Fuping, China. “I exist between two countries,
moving between political and environmental tensions
and striving for balance in an uneven world,” she states.
She seeks meaning in the exploration of the forms of the
earth, and life in New Mexico, with its wide silences and
spare beauty, is a source of constant inspiration.

Molanphy, Swell, Stoneware, 11x5x8 each, 2013-2014

“Simultaneously embracing as well as thwarting
expectations of traditional ceramics, Brian Molanphy’s
work explores the themes of accumulation, repetition,
imperfection and enclosure.” He begins with an interest
in architecture in its most basic form. This examination
leads to identifying singular formal elements, and then
building upon these, creating groupings and bodies of
work that reference historical traditions within art
history, literature and philosophy. Molanphy is Assistant
Professor of Art at Southern Methodist University in
Dallas. Fellowships from the Fulbright Commission, the
Camargo Foundation, & the Brown Foundation brought
him to Provence, France where he continues to work
